<br />
<br />
As I promised in <a href="http://yasminelizabethdesign.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/creative-stitches-hobbycrafts-event.html" target="_blank">this post</a>, here is a full entry dedicated to <a href="http://www.thedecopatchplace.co.uk/" target="_blank">decopatch</a>. I haven't mentioned on here that I am to be married, even though my wedding is a whole year away I am starting with all my decor now because (A.) I just can't wait and (B.) I like to be organised and (C.) as I am doing it all myself it is going to a while! The theme we are having is rustic red roses hence the red rose paper I will be using and the twine to hang.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
I started off with the following:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVmjf9S3iU4DgLREFTS1A4OO84xVXh-_8bwNFcu4RXIGA4TgFsRn7GHuVSroQQaKLUYpU_z4FDbyJHUdq0Hx253UJRPpqS_c_rsoPy-9DhtBvqtOCbCviCRyDBB_8jNWQNMOO-W1m9XBK1/s1600/IMG_0676.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVmjf9S3iU4DgLREFTS1A4OO84xVXh-_8bwNFcu4RXIGA4TgFsRn7GHuVSroQQaKLUYpU_z4FDbyJHUdq0Hx253UJRPpqS_c_rsoPy-9DhtBvqtOCbCviCRyDBB_8jNWQNMOO-W1m9XBK1/s320/IMG_0676.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>My chosen letters M (for Mark) & and Y(for Yasmin obviously). MR AND MRS would also be an option but I'm a budget bride! </li>
<li>Decopatch red rose paper, 2 sheets was enough for 3 letters.</li>
<li>Decopatch glue</li>
<li>Decopatch brush</li>
</ul>
<div>

</div>
<div>
These are the instructions I was given:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5qwPWTmdm9CUPQ7DzrxOYQOfsBEpygqgdHaTrM1qLpmWuOGh_yM9ehO68IO3KQ5gsWPVxoUX2hcz9uwdouUbJWyFFHw_3OBsiTomvzZAhFfaNrXZfXiw5DiO50M9oX-XWE0lQFZ1bjwda/s1600/decopatch1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5qwPWTmdm9CUPQ7DzrxOYQOfsBEpygqgdHaTrM1qLpmWuOGh_yM9ehO68IO3KQ5gsWPVxoUX2hcz9uwdouUbJWyFFHw_3OBsiTomvzZAhFfaNrXZfXiw5DiO50M9oX-XWE0lQFZ1bjwda/s640/decopatch1.jpg" width="456" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdQuMO19vxPux6qlDbBpMqS2IziYAVvVFzpweJVTPmto9h5d_FNZoO_8yajEvIlr6q9IuolJcQWf8oAJSRNxIMr1cr58gLyrkkFUh1OgvIqz5Z2RFj4HxntlR6WHYqsfA_jRnDM05GxO_A/s1600/decopatch2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdQuMO19vxPux6qlDbBpMqS2IziYAVvVFzpweJVTPmto9h5d_FNZoO_8yajEvIlr6q9IuolJcQWf8oAJSRNxIMr1cr58gLyrkkFUh1OgvIqz5Z2RFj4HxntlR6WHYqsfA_jRnDM05GxO_A/s640/decopatch2.jpg" width="434" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The instructions are pretty much self explanatory, it's not rocket science just fun fun fun! I kind of experimented for each letter but found my technique for letter M the most successful as I was only using one design I wanted the pattern to be continuos so you could really see the red roses but if you were using different papers the instructions above are suitable. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What I did was traced the letter twice onto the wrong side of paper </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsJyLnJFXZr1hGZJs3hKr5enqfjpV2e-qpcrcYkQV2M2mQKIauVFZTCHc_p_btDfbmdtugJXe8zSigp5TxRUjSnLOQ4U-agMjjGH02DSHpv__Zt3ytrOGJ_Bgbjk5w7Bz87XYgOmCG9Kw2/s1600/IMG_0743.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsJyLnJFXZr1hGZJs3hKr5enqfjpV2e-qpcrcYkQV2M2mQKIauVFZTCHc_p_btDfbmdtugJXe8zSigp5TxRUjSnLOQ4U-agMjjGH02DSHpv__Zt3ytrOGJ_Bgbjk5w7Bz87XYgOmCG9Kw2/s320/IMG_0743.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Cut out traced M outline x2 and some smallish rectangles to cover the sides. I also carefully pressed the M's to remove the crumples (not shown below!)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimkOjR3FQC7PeggqxGTG6iHryUByKlhzhgnjcwL4ideMnObK2ijx-Lk20lJUQtgWWhoCJg-R0T4JDASPwCUVyqWeAS56Co_udNFC5dTMhVpVj6lIHAyi419KTfbRcNaEHRf6PsmkSkmqYE/s1600/IMG_0744.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimkOjR3FQC7PeggqxGTG6iHryUByKlhzhgnjcwL4ideMnObK2ijx-Lk20lJUQtgWWhoCJg-R0T4JDASPwCUVyqWeAS56Co_udNFC5dTMhVpVj6lIHAyi419KTfbRcNaEHRf6PsmkSkmqYE/s320/IMG_0744.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I firstly covered all around the sides with the small rectangles using the technique described in instructions. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6woYA2zG1YGZZ_1mTeNMkZPZU80LQXb6I9SQ0hLoj-LJKhSYQaSPw-mGgpqoaGsJt20ro8PK_WT2PmH3l-oRKdKEZhp-_04DefPB0Jb3XzfucfBzt8Lb1OA77LYxEvg4_W11o6ZV9gghl/s1600/IMG_0748.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6woYA2zG1YGZZ_1mTeNMkZPZU80LQXb6I9SQ0hLoj-LJKhSYQaSPw-mGgpqoaGsJt20ro8PK_WT2PmH3l-oRKdKEZhp-_04DefPB0Jb3XzfucfBzt8Lb1OA77LYxEvg4_W11o6ZV9gghl/s320/IMG_0748.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Once the sides were covered I then stuck down my cut out M letters onto the front and back of the letter. I did wait till one side was completely dry before I did the other side, hairdryer came in handy for this!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here are my finished letters:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSx81wFW9FVbSA8ACvKa-gCxzdZRpZyJDtZhMbqOMiYFI62hoWFcHD9e5vSwdyIqWJFKGI5fyGmZ4RBs6leD7wI_r9WqVJ-b7pYtlaArVHvtg03SV5HUQu9ym2cAbSqliZ32bUXdA5uuxe/s1600/IMG_0754.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSx81wFW9FVbSA8ACvKa-gCxzdZRpZyJDtZhMbqOMiYFI62hoWFcHD9e5vSwdyIqWJFKGI5fyGmZ4RBs6leD7wI_r9WqVJ-b7pYtlaArVHvtg03SV5HUQu9ym2cAbSqliZ32bUXdA5uuxe/s320/IMG_0754.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To hang them I used twine and I'm not really sure what they're called but they came in a picture hanging kit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhegrKgYF0bB3XpRB6rIUhqx3DUPzTR94PsWnHPnxard74qKJJV43ejz2CK_TN2ImZZXdX2qKfTuE3HnBrNIOkGS_sm0j4kkcifPaBjsxhNMgWYnHcobuvDYlPu1O_CBbe9vEYbaMwjbOKr/s1600/IMG_0751.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhegrKgYF0bB3XpRB6rIUhqx3DUPzTR94PsWnHPnxard74qKJJV43ejz2CK_TN2ImZZXdX2qKfTuE3HnBrNIOkGS_sm0j4kkcifPaBjsxhNMgWYnHcobuvDYlPu1O_CBbe9vEYbaMwjbOKr/s320/IMG_0751.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I literally just poked them through (the letters are hollow), they are screws so they remain in place. I then cut 2 15inch pieces of twine for each letter, looped them through, double knot, snipped the ends off and joined the 2 pieces together to tie a bow.</div>

<br />
Yesterday was such a good day! Went to the <a href="http://www.ichf.co.uk/csh/" target="_blank">ICHF event Creativestitches & Hobbycrafts</a> at Aintree. Me and a lot of older people it seems young people don't craft or sew anymore!? <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">There was <span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;">a wide variety of supplies for stitching, dressmaking, beading, knitting, papercrafts, jewellery making, beading, stamping and embossing</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;"> as well as workshops. Here are my goodies from the day - </span></span><br />

My personal fave has to the Decopatch goodies, the letters are for the wedding reception and the paper is a beautiful red rose design. I will dedicate a full post to how I get on with it but for now here is a link to the website to see what beautiful creations you can make - <a href="http://www.thedecopatchplace.co.uk/" target="_blank">DECOPATCH</a>.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The workshops were so inspiring, the people just made it look effortless. I (tried) made ribbon roses, used a foil machine (they are amazing for handmade invitations), learnt how to decopatch and watched how with a stencil, soap and glitter you can make the most beautiful designs.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Look out for the Decopatch post soon!</div>

I have learnt so much in the past 2 days, 2 more to go! Hopefully by the end of it (the not revealing the name till i buy the domain) boutique will not only be a dream but a likely reality! <br />

<u><b>Cutting out</b></u></div>
<div>
<u><br />
</u></div>
<div>
From bag fabric:</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Cut 2 bag pieces on the fold using the pattern above </li>
<li>Cut 1 pocket piece 20 x 15cm</li>
<li>Cut 2 handle pieces 15 x 70 cm</li>
</ul>
<div>
From lining fabric:</div>
</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Cut 2 bag pieces on the fold using the pattern above</li>
</ul>
<div>
To create my pattern pieces I just taped A4 sheets of paper together to form the right measurements, then pinned the patterns onto fabric and cut out around, but you could use pattern paper, brown paper, or just draw your patterns directly onto fabric using quilters chalk.</div>

This post will be about how I created his costume and I will do another post about how I did my Princess Jasmine costume (yes i am getting dressed up to!!!)<br />
<br />
Please note when I say under £7 It is because I tried to use what I already had as much as possible. I bought the red t-shirt, stripey tights and skull patch from ebay which came to £6.50 the rest of the stuff I already had and you probably will to!<br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">I was lucky enough to have this scarf, which works quite well for a pirate bandana. I simply folded it into a triangle and tied the long sides at the back of the head. You will find a suitable scarf in any charity shop for around a £1 or you could make your own by cutting a large square from fabric, folding over raw edges, finishing the edges and then folding into a triangle like I did.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><u>Eye patch</u></div><div style="text-align: center;"><u><br />
</u></div><div style="text-align: left;">For the eye patch I used a red and white striped fabric. I drew my pattern free hand onto paper first, checked it was the right size for Malachy's eye then pinned it onto my folded fabric so I had 2 identical pieces and cut out with a 1/4inch seam allowance all around.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><u><br />
</u></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXxmGcJvpWZ-gF6p1j-sCBttV4bh0cazr94PVijj2NprzW3z4KC_SZC0ahq-OhJ2k0MwWTkx7wWg0DLz3PZEoPnv3d05GgOS6SJ0z9nRg2jfImWi_yeW23kC1UQPDiilqK-f8C7EavoARo/s1600/IMG_0459.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXxmGcJvpWZ-gF6p1j-sCBttV4bh0cazr94PVijj2NprzW3z4KC_SZC0ahq-OhJ2k0MwWTkx7wWg0DLz3PZEoPnv3d05GgOS6SJ0z9nRg2jfImWi_yeW23kC1UQPDiilqK-f8C7EavoARo/s320/IMG_0459.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">I then cut a layer of interfacing using the pattern without the seam allowance. pin fabric pieces right sides together and iron down interfacing to one of your fabric pieces wrong side.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMbLiSyB7qP4bXWP8-KodHpSDhpaCQGgMgtPW68lW_tS7318oLYK99FLWM0mf2nO2smQhkr17_n2LAx0Xn2JifRsiXCaaqFj70Jz3GtN4vVmCcTaTaS0u2GADidrEoHaWda1qWnhPxE-qK/s1600/IMG_0461.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMbLiSyB7qP4bXWP8-KodHpSDhpaCQGgMgtPW68lW_tS7318oLYK99FLWM0mf2nO2smQhkr17_n2LAx0Xn2JifRsiXCaaqFj70Jz3GtN4vVmCcTaTaS0u2GADidrEoHaWda1qWnhPxE-qK/s320/IMG_0461.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">sew together using interfacing as your seam allowance guide. leave 1inch or so open to turn right side out. press once sewn. measure elastic round head and then sew the ends of the elastic to either side of the patch. top stitch all along patch.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I really wanted to use the striped fabric but an even easier option would be to use felt or leather as you would only need one layer.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><u><br />
</u></div><div style="text-align: center;"><u>Top</u></div><div style="text-align: center;"><u><br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">You will now be able to put over the head and use the tights on the arms instead of the legs.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I thought my patch was a little small for the t-shirt so decided to do an applique design as well but you could skip this step and simply iron or sew patch directly onto your t-shirt.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I ironed my patch onto a t-shirt fabric, cut around it leaving 2 inches or so and then ironed onto interfacing. I then folded my fabric over twice and drew a pattern for the bone part and cut out which left me with 4 bone pieces. I then also added interfacing to theses pieces. I pinned my applique design onto t-shirt and sewed down the raw edges using a tight zig zag stitch.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><u><br />

</div>3. Fold your red felt in half and pin down your stocking template. Cut out using pinking shears. Because you have folded your felt you should now have 2 stocking pieces.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmD45OeliEwlOTwbu_LJjMTmdBcHBr9S9nc2sUqqal21lzdS83MqJDqjOA8uGwNiEix0EWsUa1-deOceYix8RnIlGVcDyqDd3ESctdL0jDUVJ_fFIYWhxHDbOJRKf9xC2S9AGnYRJVF-wM/s1600/IMG_0233.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmD45OeliEwlOTwbu_LJjMTmdBcHBr9S9nc2sUqqal21lzdS83MqJDqjOA8uGwNiEix0EWsUa1-deOceYix8RnIlGVcDyqDd3ESctdL0jDUVJ_fFIYWhxHDbOJRKf9xC2S9AGnYRJVF-wM/s320/IMG_0233.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">4. Repeat step 3 for as many stockings as you need. There will be 7 of us for Christmas dinner so I did this 7 times.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">5. Now you want to do the same for your cuff pieces. Pin your template onto your folded white felt and again cut out using pinking shears. Repeat for how many stocking cuffs you require.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">6. Really pleased with how it's turned out as there were techniques I'd never used before first time doing any applique and even mastered the crossstitch. It is all hand sewn and going to be a Christmas present for my wonderful mum.<br />

I just love making/creating things, end of. The whole joy & satisfaction that comes from handmade and do-it-yourself projects makes me feel happy inside. I particularly love creating mixed-media art work & sewing. Among my other interests are digital design and illustration.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I studied multimedia at Liverpool Community college. During my time there I fell in love with the adobe creative suite especially Illustrator and Photoshop. I learnt so much during those 2 years! Happy times. Following my graduation, I was accepted into Glasgow school of Art to study Visual Communication, which would of led to a degree in design but unfortunately due to domestic commitments I was unable to return to the course after the first year. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I am currently a stay-at-home mama to my little Jelly tot Malachy, he is 2. We live in Liverpool, England. In the last year I have discovered a great love for sewing and although I still have a lot to learn I would class myself as well and truly addicted. Having a blog to share my creations and to view other peoples makes this an exciting time for me. I have learnt so many techniques by following peoples tutorials and would love to give something back. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

I have been meaning to join the blogging world for so long and here I am! In the past couple of weeks I have felt a great resurgence in doing what I love (all things creative but mostly mixed-media) and have decided my little boy, Malachy (18 months) is now old enough to go to nursery a couple of days a week. While he is in nursery I am going to be very busy building my website, doing illustrations, collages, illo friday, promotion. Here will be where I share it all, I hope you enjoy!<br />
